Meet Luke

UX Engineer

At FruitCast, our people play a key role in shaping the technology behind our yield forecasting solution. Today, we’re introducing Luke, our UX Engineer, who combines user experience design with programming to help create practical, effective tools for farmers.

Luke joined FruitCast in July 2023 and has since become an important part of the team. His work focuses on understanding users’ needs and translating them into app features and solutions that genuinely work for farmers. From shaping the user experience to contributing to key technical decisions, Luke has played a large role in how the FruitCast application has developed.

With a background in Computer Science from the University of Lincoln, Luke has been able to apply his degree directly to his role at FruitCast. His technical knowledge helps him solve complex problems around yield forecasting and farm management, while his focus on user experience ensures that the solutions created are useful, accessible and valuable for growers.

Since joining the company, Luke has helped bring structure and process to FruitCast’s development work. His experience with agile working and scrum has supported the team as the product has continued to evolve. He has also taken ownership of key areas of the codebase to make the app more robust and maintainable.

Luke also enjoys supporting others in the team and has played a mentoring role with Harvey (more on Harvey next week!) as he has developed his own technical skills. He finds it rewarding to help people who are earlier in their careers grow in confidence and ability.

One of the things Luke enjoys most about his job is discussing user experience problems and finding the best way to solve them through thoughtful design and strong technical architecture. He also values the atmosphere in the Lincoln office and enjoys working closely with the team.

Luke’s life outside work is a mix of gardening, running, drumming, motorbike rides and time at home with his cats.
